Winner of the "Young Krokus Jazz Competition ‘2021” main prize
Dafnie is like a strong wind blowing off the Scandinavian jazz scene. The quintet plays strong and melodic compositions by Amalie Dahl. The music is melodic, harmonic but also avant-garde and experimenting with forms and structures. Together, the band explores how improvisation and the theme are related to each other and how they can develop both these issues - how they can bring music out of its usual framework and musicians out of their comfort zone. Music can be associated with, for example other bands such as Anna Högberg Attack or Julia Strzałek. The band members are active in other projects, for example Kongle Trio, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, I like to Sleep, Skurkar and Bliss. Dafnie has been playing together since autumn 2020, as a band it started at Amalia's graduation concert at NTNU. In spring 2022, the band's first album, which was recorded in June 2021, is going to be released on Sonic Transmissions Records.
