Tim Regis - drumsEmerging from the vibrant and highly creative Chicago music scene, Isaiah Collier is today considered one of the most exciting artists of the younger generation of American jazz. A multi instrumentalist, composer, curator, educator, and activist, he has gained international recognition primarily as a saxophonist of extraordinary expressiveness, spiritual depth, and remarkable stage energy. His music grows out of the traditions of spiritual jazz, improvised music, and African American cultural heritage, while boldly embracing contemporary forms of expression.

Collier performs both with his own original projects and as a member of Brotherhood led by Angel Bat Dawid. He has also collaborated with many outstanding contemporary artists, including Chance The Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III, Junius Paul, and William Hooker. His artistic work extends far beyond music itself, encompassing education, social engagement, and support for young artists connected to Chicago’s improvised music scene.

Particular acclaim came with the release of “Cosmic Transitions”, recorded with his ensemble The Chosen Few. Released in 2021, the album was quickly hailed as one of the most important jazz recordings of the year. It received a prestigious five star review from DownBeat magazine and appeared in numerous year end best album lists on both sides of the Atlantic.

“Cosmic Transitions” is a monumental multi movement suite inspired by the spiritual and musical legacy of John Coltrane. The album was recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio on Coltrane’s birthday, using some of the same analog equipment employed during the historic recording session of “A Love Supreme”. This symbolic gesture highlights Collier’s deep connection to the spiritual jazz tradition, while his music remains unmistakably contemporary, filled with courage, intensity, and a constant search for new forms of expression.

Isaiah Collier’s work captivates audiences with both its remarkable musical versatility and emotional authenticity. His concerts are intense experiences, full of improvisational freedom, trance like energy, and profound dialogue between musicians. He is an artist who looks respectfully toward the history of jazz while boldly helping to shape its future.
