KABAN – The Absolute Opposite of an Academic Jazz Quartet

KABAN is a new arrival on the Polish music scene, boldly and uncompromisingly blurring the boundaries between jazz imagination, the raw edge of rock, and the honesty of the blues. The band’s story began in the corridors of the renowned Faculty of Jazz and Popular Music at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. It was there that a group of friends decided to turn their shared passion into a project that breaks improvisation free from its academic constraints.

Two powerful forces dominate the quartet’s music: carefully crafted counterpoint and an infectious, driving groove. The band members consciously weave their boundless passion for the blues into their compositions. They love experimenting with sonic textures, creating musical landscapes that are balanced yet anything but predictable.

Their work is deeply conceptual and programmatic. Life itself – and its inherent absurdities – provides the inspiration for their music. KABAN explores the paradoxes hidden in seemingly trivial, everyday situations: experiences whose familiarity resonates with listeners, yet which often cannot be easily put into words.

On stage, KABAN rejects restraint in favour of authenticity and charismatic energy. Their concerts are unfiltered performances – a raw and direct exchange of emotion with the audience. The band proves that music rooted in jazz can move a crowd with the impact, intensity and ferocity of a full-blooded rock show.

Band members

Jan Paweł Kamiński – electric guitar
Szymon Pacholak – bass guitar, double bass

KABAN knows the rules of music – but has enough courage to break them on its own terms.
